This development evaluates the new arbitrational rules for international environmental arbitration at the Permanent Court of Arbitration. Although the rules enjoy several innovative features particularly suitable for environmental disputes, the lack of compulsory jurisdiction and other procedural defects may seriously limit their effectiveness and applicability.
